Hey! Let’s judge some of the wildly varying style efforts on the CMT Awards red carpet, okay? Okay!
Alanis Morissette
Good to see her, but we think there are better ways for her to do witchy on the red carpet. She can work something with a tiny bit more of an edge than this.
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani (in Valentino Couture)
Sure. Okay. He’s certainly dressed appropriately for the venue and she’s certainly dressed like Gwen Stefani. Her whole look is kind of silly, but it’s so on brand for her that it almost makes sense. No one else could pull it off this well.
Carrie Underwood in Dolce & Gabbana
She will never miss an opportunity to remind folks that she doesn’t skip leg day, so we guess this is somewhat inevitable. We have no qualms about hot pants on the red carpet, but we’re not sure they can handle that much beading. The top half feels like it belongs with a different outfit and the shoes feel like a too-obvious choice. It’s not working for us.
Kelsea Ballerini in Dolce & Gabbana
Miss Thing took her moment onstage to talk about school shootings and protest the Tennessee drag ban, which makes her a queen for life, as far as we’re concerned. Which is why we simply must protest this dreary ensemble. A queen deserves better.
Kennedy Davenport, Jan Sport, Manila Luzon and Olivia Lux
The Drag Race alums took to the stage to perform with Kelsea Ballerini, which is no small display of allyship given how much drag queens are under attack right now. Not to put too fine a point on it, but they are quite literally brave for showing up and showing out at an event like this. Whether it’s a fair or earned response or not, they would have every reason to consider this an unfriendly audience, but they went anyway. Anyway, we like how three of them toned down their drag to red carpet levels of glamour. Manila apparently didn’t get the memo.
LeAnn Rimes in Pamella Roland
It’s fine, but forgettable. That underskirt lining looks terrible.
Madison Bailey in Dolce & Gabbana
It’s really appealing in a boldly simple sort of way. Uncomplicated glam.
Megan Thee Stallion in Defaïence
It’s a hot look, but it also looks painful to wear.
Noah Schnapp
The proportions are terrible, making him look boxy and shorter than he is.
Shania Twain in Prabal Gurung
Look, if a lady wants to wear nude hose, that’s fine, but it’s not a choice that pairs well with every dress. It looks terrible here. Granted, the dress is pretty terrible too.
Travis Kelce
He’s pretty, so this low-effort look mostly works, but that boot color is terrible with that suit.
