Gilded Age star Christine Baranski celebrated her 70th birthday on the same night she attended her first (!) Met Gala. To mark the occasion, she said “Fuck your bustles.”
This is sort of like when RuPaul went to the Met Gala and refused to wear drag. You gotta pay Christine Baranski if you want to see her in a bustle. Not that we’re complaining. We think this look is fabulously chic and totally on point without being too literal about it. After all, the dress code was “Gilded glamour and white tie.” We love the subtlety of the sequins and the rather forgiving design of that corset, which mimics the shape but leaves her able to breath and move. We’re not without our quibbles, though. We wish the lining had been anything other than white and while we understand the menswear-style sleeves, we don’t think they look all that great sticking out from under the cape. We think the design would’ve been better sleeveless, to be honest. LOVE the shades, which add just the right level of chic, cool confidence to the look.
