Troy Kotsur, like so many of the acting winners, made history last night at the Oscars. He made us believe that a man can pull off a newsboy cap/tuxedo combination. That’s historic.
But okay, yes. He ALSO made history as the first deaf Best Actor winner. He has said that he wears the caps on the red carpet so he can see his interpreter and the people who are talking to him under the bright lights. We suspect he’ll have to wear them all the time now. He’s made them his signature look. As for the tux, it’s surprisingly conventional, given how funky some of his fashion has been throughout awards season. The “I love you” ASL brooch is charming, but also really powerful.
