If we lived in an old-timey newspaper movie, this would be the point where your intrepid (but also clearly gay) journalists yell “Stop the presses and get me rewrite, dollface!” Brace yourselves, because not only is Kim Kardashian a Wall Street Journal-recognized innovator of the year, but we also can’t find anything to fault about what she’s wearing. No, really.
Sure, it’s extremely body-con, but it’s well-fitted to her in the sense that there’s no pulling or bulging or wrinkling. This is her style and this particular iteration has a few things going for it, like the slightly unusual color and the bust design, which is interesting to our eyes. The gloves give it that Kardashian-level drama and we can’t really find any fault with her hair or makeup. It’s all very dramatic and unmistakably her. This is the Good Kimmy (from a style perspective) and we should celebrate it while it lasts. We don’t like the python boots with this at all, but it’s just so refreshing to see her get past her naked shoe phase.
It should be noted that her dress came completely unzipped when she stood up to receive her award and designer and collaborator Kim Jones had to zip her up quickly. Lest you think this is evidence that the dress is too tight and she almost suffered an egregiously embarrassing faux pas, know that the queen of brand management does not allow mistakes to happen unless they’re for a very good reason. In other words, the first thing she said when she got up to the podium to accept her award was “Thank god I had SKIMS on, or this would have been a very different kind of show tonight.”
People hate to hear this for some reason, but she absolutely knows what she’s doing.
