Look, we’ve always loved Kate Winslet, even before she impressed everyone in the Delaware Valley with her hoagie-mouthed Philly accent in Mare of Easttown. But man, we sure do wish she’d break out of her style rut. As we noted in our piece for Cosmopolitan, these pictures could have been taken at any time in the last ten years:

She’s worn some version of this gown roughly eleven million times* in the last decade. On the one hand, there’s nothing wrong with having a go-to style and sticking with what works for you. On the other hand, most actors need to keep their promo style at least a little updated; otherwise, they risk looking stale.

Sure, it’s a nice enough dress. We have no real issues with the style or design other than how boring it is. Actually, that’s not quite true. The longer we look at those flimsy sleeves, the less we like them. We just wish she’d embrace some color or sparkle every now and then. And wouldn’t kill her to wear something with a bit of a silhouette to it instead of always going for the body-con dresses. Yes, they flatter her, but we don’t think they’re the only style that would do that for her.

In related news, we don’t love the messy hair. Combined with a dress that looks like she pulled it from the back of her closet, it gives the whole look a somewhat perfunctory feel to it.

*exaggerated for effect because we’re prone to hyperbole
