Best actor nominee Riz Ahmed didn’t necessarily take the bold swings his fellow nominees Leslie Odom, Jr. or Lakeith Stanfield did throughout awards season, but like them, he clearly had no interest in sticking with entirely traditional menswear tropes. This feels like a sort of compromise: a fully traditional tuxedo paired with a crew neck sweater.
We neither hate it nor love it. It looks like a very fine tux and we love the shoes. He’s so pretty and naturally elegant-looking that practically any sort of minor twist on formalwear is going to look great on him. Even so, this rates as one of the least adventurous menswear looks on a night when the menswear turned out to be the big story. It’s fine. He’s pretty. It’s all good. But as twists on the tux go, this one’s a little dull.
We wish he’d buttoned the jacket. It looks like the tailoring is pretty nice, but it’s hard to tell.
