We have a rough plan for Oscars coverage that we’ve stuck to for a decade now: Start with the winners, move your way through the presenters and then wrap it up with the nominees and attendees. It’s pretty much unheard-of ’round the T Lo corporate offices to kick things off with a presenter and in any other year, it would be unfathomable for us to make the choice to begin the assessments with a director of one of the nominated films.

But as she’s proven many times over, Regina King is an exceptional entertainer and personality who has a pretty much flawless red carpet record when it comes to awards shows. In retrospect, we probably shouldn’t have been surprised that she’d show up in what we’d consider one of the greatest Oscars gowns of all time. Seriously. Bearing 62,000 sequins and 8,400 crystals, representing 140 hours of work by the Louis Vuitton atelier, this absolute stunner of a gown is hands-down the best dress of the night. She looks amazing.

She’s been sporting some fairly elaborate hairstyles all throughout awards season, but it was a really smart choice by her team to keep the coif as simple as possible. Her face is exquisitely framed by the hairstyle and the butterfly wing shoulder treatment.
