Miss Phoebe is performing what we like to call the Dockery Maneuver; named after Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery, who found herself an international star for her turn as the supremely stylish heroine of a bygone age. When an an up and coming actress finds herself with sudden high-fashion access after having played a career-defining period-costume part, she best get her hands on the harder, edgier, sexier stuff pronto.
As we said with Andra Day, this is a time not to dress up like a Regency era heroine, but like an actress with range and a bright future ahead of her. The funny thing is, we’re only so-so on the actual dress. We’re just impressed by the smartness of the choice.
We’re gonna look back on all the slicked-back celebrity hair of this time and call it Lockdown Hair.
