Our little queer prince served up a little bit of Queer Prince last night and despite whatever quibbles we may have about the particulars, we are duty-bound by the laws of queerness to applaud the effort. Like most of his public style choices, it made us smile.
We don’t like the textile, the color or the cut. There. We said it. Now let’s all move on.
If we sound testy it’s because we hate to land on the negatives when we love the overall idea of the look so much. This isn’t strictly Prince cosplay, but it does owe a lot to the Purple One’s style, with a bit of El DeBarge in there too. Everything from the neck up – frames, hair, jewelry – looks spectacular on him. And we like the blouse. But an entire python suit skeeves us a little bit. And we hate to say it, but the fit feels way off. The pants are too wide and the jacket’s too boxy with sleeves that are too short. We like everything but the suit, is what we’re saying.
