Good Lady Cate pulls an oldie but a goody out from the back of her closet. She first wore this dress five years ago at the London Film Festival premiere of Carol.

As her stylist Elizabeth Stewart explained on Instagram:

“IT’S CHIC TO REPEAT! Cate Blanchett has decided to rewear some of her most cherished looks at this year’s Venice Film Festival, like this Esteban Cortazar worn to tonight’s Opening that was first worn to a premiere in 2015. In her words, Beautiful things can come out of sustainability!
AND…Cate and Esteban Cortazar have donated this gorgeous look to the RAD at VENICE auction which will benefit Facing History and Ourselves and UN Women.”

The GLC, putting her fashion where her mouth is. Or something. Our point is that she’s not all talk and this is a good and smart way to navigate the world of the red carpet at the moment. Nothing wrong with modeling lewks from the latest couture lines – which she will no doubt continue to do when it suits her – but given the moment, she’s smart to make her fashion mean something and more importantly do something.

We loved the dress the first time she wore it and we love it just as much now. There’s something a little ecclesiastical about the design that really suits her and we love the heavy-duty necklace.
