There was a movie premiere red carpet! In America, you guys! The stars of Antebellum came out for a special “rooftop cinematic experience” at The Grove – and you know? We think someone needs to pay us. We’ve been saying since March that red carpets and photo calls could come back if they just held them on rooftops or in empty parking lots. Anyway, Miss Janelle is back on a red carpet again and we could not be more thrilled by that, even if we are a bit confused by her choices.
Okay, so the hair is spectacular, the butterfly mask is fabulous and we’re loving all of the jewelry. But we don’t think we’ve ever seen her wear anything as conventionally dull as that dress. We’re not mad at it. And she does look fantastic. But for the first time in memory, she’s wearing something totally un-memorable on the red carpet. We wonder if it’s a response to the film’s rather underwhelming reviews or a way of declaring her leading lady status, since this is her first lead in a film. We really hope it’s not the latter. We’d hate to see her strip away all the most interesting parts of herself. Gaga tried that and it didn’t get her the Oscar she wanted so she went back to being the freaky girl again. We’re just saying, Janelle. You look great, but we miss the boundary-pushing.
