You guys, it happened. It finally happened. We kept predicting that our months-long drought of celebrity style would cause us to become kinder and gentler bitches when celebrities started figuring out ways to be publicly stylish again. But for the most part, we’ve maintained our nitpicky record on these matters, prompting us to consider that nothing would change us from our stubbornly held bitchy ways. And then the heavens parted and lo, did Miss Nicki descend with an annunciation.

And thusly the wicked bloggers fell to the ground, the scales of bitchiness dropping from their eyes at last. For they knew in their heart of hearts that in the days before the drought they almost certainly would have said something like “It’s a bit much for a pregnancy announcement, no?” But in These Uncertain Times, their hearts were struck with joy and rang out like gongs (or something), compelling them to exclaim “YOU GET YOUR DRAG QUEEN MATERNITY ANNOUNCEMENT ON, MISS WOMAN!” And lo, did the fingersnaps commence.

Seriously though, with Katy Perry going full on Clown Town and Nicki Minaj serving us diva goddess drag realness, we’re kinda digging how performatively stylish celebrity maternity has gotten. There’s a sense and an implication from both artists that their pregnancy and motherhood isn’t changing their personality or their art or their style. On the contrary, it’s enhancing and strengthening all of it. You can thank Beyonce for really pioneering that idea of pop star motherhood as its own from of public display of strength, inspiration and beauty.
