Keri Russell did her wifely duty — not just by showing up in finery for the premiere of husband Matthew Rhys’s new series Widow’s Bay, but also by standing next to him while he wears something incredibly goofy in public.

A reminder that this is the premiere of an Apple TV series and not the opening night of an amateur community theater production of Hamilton. They don’t just look like they’re attending different events, they look like they’re dressed for entirely different parts of the world. To be fair, we can’t say we’re loving her culottes and elf shoes at all, but why on earth is he wearing wellies? And what’s with that goofy cravat? And why is the color off but not off enough between his jacket and pants? In related news, the makeup team took a slightly heavy hand with him. We’re all for male stars getting their maquillage on for public appearances, but he’s looking a little overdone.
ABOUT THE SERIES:
“Widow’s Bay” is a quaint island town 40 miles off the coast of New England. But something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community. There’s no Wi-Fi, spotty cellular reception and he must contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him. They don’t. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination. Miraculously, he succeeds: tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true, start happening again. “Widow’s Bay” blends genuine horror with character-driven comedy.
