We’re completely thrown off by this set of choices. She’s fairly unpredictable in her red carpet style, which shouldn’t make this all that surprising to us, but if someone said to us last week, “Hey, I heard Brie Larson’s going to the Image Awards this weekend. What do you think she’ll wear?” The very last thing we would have said was “Updated Disney princess.”
Putting aside our assumptions that this dress is an odd choice for her, we’re trying to come to terms with the design. The skirt is striking and the colors are beautiful. The shape is classic and hard to get wrong. We even think we can be convinced on the sheer opera gloves. It all feels like someone took a Cinderella drawing and started fucking with it, bit by bit. That’s all good – and in a way, very on-brand for her. But that long white bodice feels … we don’t know, unresolved somehow. We think we may have liked this more if that had been rendered in one of the blues. And her hair feels way too casual for a look that comes with elbow-length pearl-studded gloves. You tell us: is this working for real?
