COME THROUGH, queens. Take your victory lap. Look fabulous doing it.
Ava DuVernay in Hyke
She’s one of the few non-acting directors whose red carpet appearances we cover, mainly because she has a dramatic and consistent sense of style, which means she has a natural knack for using fashion in this sort of promotional manner. We like this for being somewhat simple, but it really needed a metallic leather belt, not that fabric sash.
Aunjanue Ellis
If we’ve got this sussed out correctly, she’s wearing a jacket over a matching jumpsuit. With a print as loud and vibrant as that one, a little visual breathing space was needed. A black jacket would’ve been our rec.
Marsha Stephanie Blake in Theia
Just a simple “Yes, I am a movie star” gold metallic dress with matching sandals. A classic that’s impossible to get wrong.
Niecy Nash
And then there’s the Empress of Fit, serving curves to beat the gods. It’s a simple dress, but the power is all in how she fills it.
They look great together. Not matchy, not even coordinated, but distinct and complementary. That’s how it’s done.
