Kittens! There was fringe! There were sequins! There were cray dresses and demure dresses and then there was Erykah Badu, who’s kind of in her own category! In other words, it was a parade of fashion; some good and some not-so-good. Yes, these ladies do rock, but not every lewk on this red carpet did!

It’s got scalloped fringe, kittens. It’s got a fringed pants hem. These are not good things. They are, in fact, terrible things. But she is The Bassett and such frivolities matter little. The fierceness comes through, no matter what she’s wearing. The hair and face help tremendously. Having said all that, we’ve actually had long discussions about the tragedy of her public style, which is nothing but a series of missed opportunities, to our eyes.

The fringe is literally the least noticeable thing about this look, which is saying something when you’re talking about fringe measured in feet and yards rather than inches. Call us nuts, but the top half of this look comes off kind of funny and pop-star appropriate. It all goes south from the waist down, however.

Of all the ladies to show up to this event in something classically glamorous and relatively demure, Miss Ciara would’ve been low on our list of predictions. Maybe she just felt like swerving away from all the sexy-sexy she’s been sporting. We have no complaints. It’s not particularly exciting but it’s notable for its restraint.

Shine on, woman. We wouldn’t dream of telling you to stop doing … all of this.

One of the cutest red carpet takes on a track suit we’ve ever seen. There isn’t a thing about this we’d change. The shoes and shades were perfectly chosen and the color story looks fantastic on her.

It seems most of the attendees opted for cray or they opted to go very simple and low-key. Miss Issa’s been keeping it on the downplayed side for a while now but we kind of wish she’d get back to being a bit bolder with her style. This is fine, if not memorable.

Yas, queen. Serves us sci-fi boob realness. We don’t get it, we’re not saying we like it, but we won’t soon forget it – and isn’t that the point?

If there’s any celebrity lady who deserves a break from body-con dresses, it’s this one. Loosen your belt and sit awhile, Miss Niecy. You’ve earned the comfort. Also, this is kind of fun, but we wish it wasn’t so shiny.

It’s just too much. And the skirt makes no sense. Give her a full skirt and swap out the bodice for a more conventional textile.

Cute dress, dull sandals.
