Kaitlyn Dever, Olivia Wilde and Beanie Feldstein at the “Booksmart” London Special Screening

Posted on May 10, 2019

ANOTHER screening that we had to skip this week because of the Met Gala. Not this exact one, darlings. We don’t tend to get invited to London screenings attended by the stars. And when we say “we don’t tend to,” we mean “we never, in a million years, have been.” But we were invited to a local press screening and since this film looks pretty hilarious and amazing, we’re pretty bummed that we had to keep talking about freaking camp until we were blue in the face.

This portion of the post has been brought to you by WHINY COMPLAINING. Next up, judgment!

Well, they certainly went for it. Not one of them is wearing something generic, we’ll give them that.

See, white lace on a black dress is never not going to read “Puritan” somehow. It’s not a style choice we tend to support. Even less so when the white lace is placed in such oddly distracting and – it has to be said – fairly sloppy-looking ways. Credit to her for picking something strong and notable, but it’s not very pretty and it’s definitely not photogenic.

We’re on record as hating most peachy pinks and most plunging necklines, not to mention the super-floaty twee prairie dresses, but dammit, this is all working for us somehow. Maybe it’s because she knows how to work it, clearly. And the color, while it will never be our fave, looks pretty great on her. We hate the lace-trimmed neckline, though.

This is a hundred percent not to our tastes in a lot of ways, but we have to admit, there are more reasons to like it than dislike it. The colors look great on her and the print is striking and photogenic. We think it has a bit too much of a party dress feel to it. That skirt would be so much more sophisticated as a simple A-line, without the massive birthday-girl ruffle. We don’t love the sleeves, but we think the issue has more to do with the fit in the shoulder.
