Miss Lupita took the occasion of her TWO film premieres at SXSW to put on a little fashion show. Not that Miss Woman ever needed much of an excuse to turn out the lewks.

Love the hair, love the jacket. We’re struggling a bit on the pants. We don’t mind that the outfit uses two different checks. It works well with the cuffs on the jacket. But when the entire bottom half of a look is one check and the top half is another, it can’t help but look a little unbalanced. The black stripes don’t help. We don’t hate this, but we’d prefer to stop our scrolling right at her waist.

This, on the other hand, we LOVE. Admittedly, given what’s going on with us right now, we probably would find it impossible not to love this. We’re currently deep in the weeds researching a chapter on drag and how it influences fashion and here comes Miss Lupita, shocking us by serving up some Leigh Bowery realness in her styling. It’s such a spectacular  way to set off that suit and snag herself some major buzz (which she got in spades).

Even with the side cutouts (which we normally hate), we love this suit on her. It’s perfectly tailored with just enough flair to keep it from being generic.

To be fair, she kinda loses us on this one. We love all the prints and colors here. We just don’t think it needed so many of them. If we had a magic wand, we’d edit at least two of those prints out. Still, the whole point of a dress like this is to overwhelm you with all the visual information, so editing it would probably make it a lot less interesting. So we don’t much love the dress overall, but because she’s so masterful at clothes-wearing, it comes off a lot better than it might have.  The hair and makeup are gorgeous. The handbag was not needed.
