Miss Rachel, riding high on The Favourite’s success, had herself a fine old time working some notable fashion choices over the BAFTAs weekend events. Her red carpet history’s always been a bit hit-or-miss, and we can’t really say she ever struck us as someone who’s terribly into fashion, but to her credit, she’s trying some things out.

And now comes the apology, because we’re pretty sure we failed at preparing you for this in our introduction. When we said she was making notable choices, we didn’t say they were looking all that great. Having said that, we LOVE the boots. The dress is an abomination, of course.

Here’s the thing about this one: We can’t stand the tea-stained non-color and we’ve seen enough of these floofy retro gowns to last us a lifetime. But this really does look pretty great on her, despite our lack of love for the design or the color. She’s just extremely well-suited to a gown like this. Our only quibble is the hair, which really should be worn up, we think. She may not have wanted to step out on a red carpet looking like she was starring in another period drama, hence the more modern hairstyle, but that neckline and her looks really call for an up do.
