We went for a bit of an Oscars theme for this week’s showdown, kittens. Over the next week, this site’s going to be awash in tuxedos and gold frocks galore, so we thought we’d pit these two ladies against each other for quietly getting out ahead of the pack.

T’s Pick: Emily Blunt in Dolce&Gabbana at the 2019 Writers Guild Awards

T’s Defense: It’s just really cute and well done. The gaudy cocktail ring and brocade of the suit play really well with the ridiculous bow tie. It’s about being both formal and whimsical at the same time and she nailed it. The simple but pretty head styling was exactly the right choice and the shoes are killa. It’s a unique take on a standard look and it’s perfectly executed, head to toe.

Lo’s Pick: Yalitza Aparicio at Vanity Fair’s New Hollywood Party

Lo’s Defense: A dress like this one has very specific needs in terms of wearer and styling. If neither is quite right for the dress, the look winds up a little ridiculous. I can’t even say that I love this dress; I just love it on her. The silly ruffles and retro feel are counteracted by the sophisticated shimmer and the nearly flawless fit. The makeup and hair are both in perfect service to the look, giving it a greater level of elegance and glam. It’s just really well done.

And there you have it! Two standard looks! Done really well! Which one’s it gonna be, hotshot?

Who won the red carpet showdown for the week of February 17th, 2019?
