We probably shouldn’t admit this, but we have a tendency to pre-defend a look that we think is not likely to get an overwhelmingly positive reaction if we put it up to a vote. In other words, we can definitely see what might be considered some problem areas here, but we’re going to try and paint a bigger picture to put it in context. Why? Because we’re big-hearted and also because there’s not much else going on today.
Here is our big picture: This is a night that’s not about her. It’s about her showing up to support a little-supported side of her industry. She’s there to look good enough to lend a little star power to the event, but she’s not selling tickets to her own show, if you know what we mean. To our way of thinking, the dress is at just about the right level of formality and glamour and the idea (if not necessarily the execution) of simple hair and lightly colored makeup make sense for it.
Having said that, her eyeshadow looks goofy as hell, the hip bows are a terrible element and we think the length is awkward. Also: probably the wrong shoes. But what do we know? Maybe it’s a quirky sort of glam with a hidden charm that needs to be explained to us. Maybe she hit the nail on the head for the occasion. You tell us, darlings.
