Y’know? We didn’t even see The Wife, but if this is going to be Glenn Close’s year, we’re all for it. Sorry, Steffi and Olivia. The lady’s been waiting a fucking long-ass time.
Her speech was so hearfelt, so gracious and so charming, that we’d bet it did the most to secure her a possible Oscar win. One thing we noted during it, in our shallow sort of way, is just how girlish and youthful she is. In a way, looks like this: dramatic, sweeping and in the Grande Dame mode (which she has long preferred) don’t really convey her personality as well as they could. This is bold and dramatic, but so are judge’s robes, which this resembles more than a little bit. Sure, it gives her a stately quality, which strikes us as something she wants, but we’re not convinced this style really plays to her strengths and personality.
