LUV HUH.
In a night that distinguished itself with some unusually charming acceptance speeches from the women, Olivia’s befuddled awe shtick may have been the most charming of all. And Miss Olivia, it is because we love you that we feel we need to say a few un-loving words about your gown.
Like so many Stella McCartney jawns, it’s got some good ideas but somehow takes them too far or develops them oddly. We like the idea of the netting but we hate the way it’s used. It’s too flimsy for a yoke and the sleeves need to be more fitted. Even so, if those objections were somehow addressed, we’re not convinced the style of it truly suits her. While we can see her working off-beat and dramatic looks, the overall tone of the dress has a bit of a medieval ecclesiastic feel to it, which wouldn’t be our first choice for her. The more we look at it, the more we think it would really sing on her if you just removed the netting completely and switched the black out for a rich jewel tone.
