Shailene Woodley Takes it Further Than We Expected at the “Big Little Lies” Premiere

This is both a typical and atypical look for Miss Shailene.

Typical, in that it’s a slightly odd choice for the setting and/or tonally “off” somehow. In this case, it’s just a bit grandiose for this kind of red carpet. Feels like more of a film premiere or awards ceremony gown to us. It’s also typical for her in the way that it’s just kind of slapped on her, with little thought as to whether the rest of her needs to be styled up to it.

Not that she looks bad here, In fact, her hair and makeup are pretty and feel right for the setting. They’re just a bit underwhelming for the gown.

And it’s typical of Miss Shailene and her team to pick a gown for her that usually has some sort of fit issue. The bust is all wonky here and we suspect those embellishments at her shoulders are actually supposed to be resting on her shoulders. The is typical of Miss Shailene’s red carpetry probably because she can’t be assed to show up for fittings or even try things on before agreeing to them.

We’re presuming.

On the other hand – and we mean this as a compliment, backhanded though it may be – she’s shown a notable commitment to stepping up her efforts a bit and this gown sort of represents that, to our eyes. It’s bold and declarative, glamorous and sexy. If we can get her to pay just a bit of attention to the detailing, she could eventually ace this thing.

In other words, baby steps. It’s wonky, but we’ll take it.
