Andrew Garfield in NYC

Posted on May 02, 2014

If nothing else, you’ve gotta give him credit for carrying all his own crap instead of handing it off to a peon. His balancing skills are impressive.

It is a guarantee that if one of us walked down the street holding a glass bottle, he wouldn’t be holding it for long; roughly right up to the point at which it stops being a bottle. You’re living on the edge there, son.

It’s a really cute, totally T Lo street wear look, except for the t shirt, which is a little douchey. But we love the cords and the footwear.

Did he buzz his head for a role? Because if he didn’t, huge mistake. His hair was always his best feature.

He’s carrying that same leather bag, which I like quite a bit. Did anyone ever ID the maker?

    • It’s not a Saddleback Leather Co. bag, but they make something in that vein.

  • Jacob Bowen

I’m pretty sure I just balanced DOUBLE this amount of stuff on my way in from the car CAUSE IT’S THE WEEKEND!!!

Also, I actually LOVE his buzzed head, because I can’t rock the full buzzed head (awkward head shape) but it totally pushes my buttons.

    • Kent Roby

I think he looks better with hair, but he does carry the buzzed look quite well, too. This has to be for a role, but I do appreciate seeing variety.

  • Grumpy Girl

I am wondering about that orange-and-black striped sweater he is carrying. Does he think, if he got chilly, it would go with what he is wearing? Because it would not, and I don’t understand why he is carrying it.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

I’m going to pretend it’s the boy version of ladystars carrying expensive purses for the brand publicity. Because you’re right, it would not make any sense at all to wear that sweater.

    • kimmeister

I think he must have changed out of his Charlie Brown costume.

  • nannypoo

He looks like nerdy middle school student who just got his summer haircut.

    • ryenerman

Between the cords and the buzz cut, he comes way too close to resembling several kids in my son’s 6th grade class…

      • jilly_d

Yes to both of you. I currently have several middle school boys who look exactly like this right now. #majorturnoff

  • Erica

I feel that his balance would be more assured if he let go of his attaché, as it is already hanging from his shoulder, and carried his water in his right hand.

Signed, someone who is frequently carrying too much shit handed to her by her children, and someone who does not prefer his buzz cut, either.

    • housefulofboys

Girl, I hear you about lugging stuff around. I would guess that he’s not used to shoulder-wear hanging on one shoulder, it’s an acquired talent after many years of schlepping.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Of course he has a finely tuned sense of balance, he’s Spiderman.

  • LeelaST

Really detest the buzz cut look – on anyone. It’s so skinhead/Aryan Nations.

    • boweryboy

Oh, no. I love the buzzcut on guys. It’s feels nice when your rub your hand across it.
I get more of a military vibe than skinhead. Usually skinheads are completely clean shaven hence the name, and when that whole movement initially begin in the ’60s it totally wasn’t a racist/white supremist thing.

      • I briefly went out with a 6’6″ skinhead in high school. He was sort of trying to reclaim it for ska but I think it was too late, too many negative overtones! But yes, it feels SO lovely when you run your hands over it. It’s the one thing that makes me want to really inappropriately touch strangers.

        • boweryboy

There’s a guy I see every morning on my commute into work who I’ve secretly nicknamed Beefy Buzzcut. I so want to rub his head.

          • Kent Roby

I was talking to a couple of friends last week at my neighborhood watering hole when a kid with a perfect buzz like this walked up. Within 2 minutes I rubbed his head (I told him that it’s for good luck); since he had been petting my whippet Adam I felt like I had earned the right to do so!

        • Patricia Groves Dobrowski

Husband keeps his buzzed very short because it looks better with his balding head. I pet his fuzzy head all the time.

      • demidaemon

I don’t mind it on other guys. I would never use it for myself though, as it was my de facto haircut for pretty much all of middle school and high school. I do not want to be reminded of those years again.

  • I believe I heard him say on one Hollywood gossip show or another that the hair is for a (super-sekrit) role.

  • eowyn_of_rohan

He’s going to be playing a seventeenth-century Jesuit priest for Scorsese’s next movie, so my guess is it’s for that. Don’t like the shirt, but that boy does look good in red pants.

  • Lucas

I think he looks totally cute! Why is his t-shirt douchey? Is it a reference to something I’m unaware of?

    • boweryboy

It looks like an Ambercrombie & Fitch attempt to be “edgy” and “hip” which would qualify for douchey in my book. Or at least I’m seeing and A and F logo in the grid thing on his chest.

      • kimmeister

Meanwhile, that print gives me the urge to play hopscotch.

      • Alloy Jane

Oooh, I see that now. I just thought, “diamond bandaids?” and moved on to the accident-waiting-to-happen in his hand.

        • Derrick Pooyouma

It’s a band shirt. Arcade Fire

          • Alloy Jane

That is perfect. I love that it’s a band shirt, gives him even more of a school boy look with his freshly buzzed hair. Thank you for the education.

  • boweryboy

As much as I rallyed for him to cut his hair, I think he took it to the other extreme. Initially I thought the buzz cut worked for him, but now not so much.

  • IAmJ

Yes, the t-shirt is slightly douchey, but otherwise no major complaints. Props for the nice manbag.

    • Tara

It’s the latest Arcade Fire shirt – his favorite band

  • ashtangajunkie

That buzz cut is a bummer.

    • portlandmermaid

It takes me back to his performance in Never Let Me Go, a horribly sad movie.

  • formerlyAnon

It’s like your little brother’s friend – the quiet one, that read a book in between computer games and stupid joke pranks – grew up and became a famous actor.

    • demidaemon

You just nailed exactly why I irrationally like him so much, and I didn’t even know this was the reason.

  • kimmeister

Hey look, it’s totally normal to carry stuff in the crook of your elbow! (It confounds me how so many BK’s grouse when a female star carries a purse there.)

    • Alloy Jane

I’m a transit rider so I carry stuff all over my self like I’m a mule. And when a grocery tote gets too heavy for my shoulder, I transfer it to my elbow crook. Those catfood bags aren’t filled with feathers, ya know.

      • demidaemon

YES. And even though they have made cat litter containers more ergonomic for carrying, they are still as heavy as carrying a load of rocks.

    • MilaXX

I thought I was the only one.

  • msdamselfly

I like the short hair. He looks sweet

  • crash1212

I think he rocks a buzz cut. Haaaaaate the T-shirt though. Hate. Otherwise – cute.

  • rebeemoon

Saw him for the first time last night on Fallon. Thought he was adorable and unassuming. Had no idea he was British, which is a tip-off to my advanced age, I guess.

    • AnaRoW

He’s British-American or American-British. Despite how he may look on the red carpet, I’ve always thought he was a sweetheart. Plus I thought it was hilarious that he once suggested making Spider-man gay and so he could have an affair with Michael B. Jordan.

      • demidaemon

That comment was another reason that I like him so much. It would be kind of awesome, though Hollywood would never do it in a million years.

  • MilaXX

The t shirt is my favorite part of the look. I’m also starting to like the hair, or lack of.

  • Sorry, yawn form dawn to dusk. Can’t get behind this look at all. Just another hipster doucebag from Valencia St in SF.

  • sarct

I feel like he’s trying to channel Matt Smith.

  • Pablo

I like the hair, but that t-shirt has to go.

  • LadyVimes

I’m here for the nantucket red pants. I’m a sucker for red pants on pretty boys.

  • marlie

Overall, I like this. I think his best looks are his “on the street” looks. He seems so much more comfortable.

  • TwiddlyStun

Does he have The One Ring in that bag? He’s security-carrying it.

  • Imasewsure

I’m guessing head lice… love the duds though, even the douchy shirt

  • demidaemon

Agreed on the hair. I actually think the T is kind of cool. It’s a great casual look.

  • ShaoLinKitten

Your comment about his hair reminds me of the line from Little Women: “Your hair! Your beautiful hair! Oh, how could you? Your one beauty!”

  • VioletFem

It’s cute. I don’t get how the t-shirt is “douchey”. It’s actually an Arcade Fire t-shirt.

  • kategs

    I really want that tee!

  • Tarquin

I wouldn’t look at this kid twice if I saw him in the street.

  • Trickytrisha

For the life of me, I cannot figure out why this guy is a thing, much less a movie star.

    • Shawn EH

He was pretty funny on SNL this weekend.

  • LambeeBaby

I think he looks cute and casual BUT he needs to take the cell phone out of that front pocket. It spoils the look.

    • Shawn EH

Is that a cell phone in your pocket, or ….. ?

  • Joey Melliza

he looks like liam gallagher’s angsty son

  • KinoEye

I love our neighbors across the pond — thanks to you, I’ve just discovered the red trouser phenomenon. I’m very amused. The fact that there are “vibrant and burgeoning red-trouser communities of London and elsewhere” is need to know information for me. How I wish I could spend my day writing articles about red trousers.

  • Shawn EH

I like the t-shirt. I think it’s the floor plan of Nero’s Golden Temple.

  • JynxTheCat

This dude has NO appeal to me. I am flummoxed by his fame and refuse to believe there is any validity to the realtionship. I would not give him a second look on the street. ever. But everyone else enjoy! Oh and I like the douchey T.
