Posted on March 05, 2014

No offense to Eva, who’s looking pretty good in it…

But we wish Angelina had chosen this one for the Oscars. It has a better shape to it.

It’s a shame for Eva, because her go-to styling (like here) makes her look very similar to Angie already. Put on a near-identical dress to the one she wore to the Oscars mere hours earlier, and well… how can we not compare? But really; she looks good. No criticisms here. The dress is almost colorless, but her hair and lip more than make up for that. It’s all working; very elegant and glamorous at the same time.

But we can’t help shaking the feeling that we’re looking at a wax figure of Angie wearing a knockoff of her Oscar dress. Sorry, Eva. Better luck next time. Yell at your stylist.

Whatever this color is, I hope it’s a short-lived fad for the red carpet.

      • Alyssa

        I call it dishwater.

        • decormaven

          Dirty dishwater.

      • marlie

        “Old bra.”

        • CPK1

old bra soaked in dirty dishwater

        • Judy_S

Old bra that fell in the glitter tub.

        • Tanagra

You deserve a round of applause for that. Spot on!

          • marlie

I can’t take credit for it. I think TLo came up with it a long time ago. :)

      • SouthernGirlRena

I was thinking dryer lint. I can’t imagine what anyone sees in that “color”.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I was once having lunch in a Japanese restaurant in Covent Garden when they turned away Eva Green because she didn’t have a booking. So I feel that I have a personal interest in her appearance. Is this her Julie Delpy-esque playing the game whilst not playing the game?

      • MilaXX

My favorite vegan restaurant is in Covent Gardens. SO much so that I start salivating at the mere mention of the area. One of the few vegan places my meat eating friends will go to.It’s called Food for Thought and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I’ve walked past it many times but never eaten there!

          • MilaXX

Check them out Very tasty and pretty inexpensive.

        • SierraDelta

There’s a restaurant called Food for Thought in Williamsburg, Va., and they also have very good food. Their shrimp and grits makes me swoon.

          • MilaXX

I’ve never been Williamsburg, VA. Shame cause it’s only a few hours away. Sadly I couldn’t go to that Food for Thought. Not only am I vegetarian, I’m also severely allergic to seafood.

            • SierraDelta

I LOVE shrimp and grits, and it’s impossible to get anything approaching authentic here in Minnesota. I grew up in the South, so when we go back, my dormant accent roars back to life and I revert to the speech and eating patterns of my childhood. I also have arguments with my Midwestern husband about cornbread — he thinks it should have generous amounts of sugar; I tell him he’s wrong, wrong, wrong; it should have none; and then I usually wind up lovingly calling him a Damn Ass Yankee.

FFT in Williamsburg has biographical pictures of scientists and inventors and some of their quotations written all around its walls. They’re in different sizes and from an amazing variety of sources — very thought provoking to read and discuss while you wait for your food. AND, they have a fair number of vegetarian options!

            • MilaXX

I’ve been to Richmond and Falls Church, just never Williamsburg. Maybe a quick hop down for a 4 day weekend this summer would be nice.

            • MoHub

Neither of those is anything like WIlliamsburg, especially not Falls Church. Don’t go to Williamsburg too deep into the summer, though, as it can be unbearably hot, and you’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors. Early fall is primetime in Williamsburg to me.

            • SierraDelta

If you go to Colonial Williamsburg, beware of the MANY horse by products you’ll find freshly deposited on the streets — sadly the noisome downside to picturesque carriage rides. I wasn’t mindful enough about where I was walking, so I managed to drag the hem of my jeans through a small pile. The next day at the Richmond airport I had a spirited discussion with a TSA agent about why my clothes tested positive for nitrates.

        • lundibleu

Ooh, I’ve been there. It was fab!

    • MW

This collection included some gowns in absolutely stunning colours yet they all seem hell bent on the pale dresses. It upsets me greatly. Seriously celeb ladies, have a look at Evan Rachel Wood, then at Angie and Sarah Paulson, then decide for yourselves which strategy works better.

    • @Biting Panda

I don’t understand why “Dingy” is having such a fucking moment.

      • MilaXX

        Dingy dresses with dead lips.

        • kmk05

Thankfully not here! But there is such a disconnect between her face and hair and this dress. If it had been a hunter green or blue it would have been a killer. or orange! Just not this washing-my-old-bras-they’re-drying-now colour.

        • @Biting Panda

Or the consumptive eye makeup thing. Zombie Chic?

      • demidaemon

Maybe because everyone is thinking about all the dresses that have to be cleaned post-awards season and what will likely come off of them. Or they are all colorblind.

      • kmk05

Maybe it’s meant to be ‘ethereal’ but if they make them white, it’s too bridal?

    • MilaXX

Eh, she looks good, but I’m completely done in with no color glittery dresses. I need a breather before I can really appreciate this.

      • marlie

How many of them did we see 4 days ago?

        • MilaXX

Off the top of my head I remember Cate, her movie costar who’s name I’m forgetting, Sarah Paulson, Jessica Biel, and Jenna Dewan Tatum. Pretty sure there were many more than that.

    • Janet B

Up close she looks beautiful, from further away it’s all a bit dull.

    • butterflysunita

I don’t think was the way to go right after the Oscars. It’s elegant and beautiful, but it’s boring after just having seen so many prettier long glittery dresses.

    • jw_ny

Oscar’s leftovers…we’re done with that event.

    • Jacob Bowen

I LOVE the fit and the fabulosity of this dress, but I wish it wasn’t in dirty dish water color.

    • Jessica Freeman

all these no color sequin gowns are starting to look the same to me. neck up is gorgeous.

    • ThaliaMenninger

I find her features much more pleasing than Angelina’s. And this dress a hundred times better than the fungus thing.

      • Blair Sylvester

Agree I thought Angelina was one of the worst dressed

      • Anna

I think she looks and wears it better than Angelina too. The stupid non-colour is actually the least irritating to me in this version.

    • decormaven

The billboard behind screams “Seize Your Glory!” and she’s stuck with wearing Oscars leftovers. Boo, because this gal is a stunner.

    • Alyssa

      Beautiful from the neck up!

    • Shannon Long

This dress is eh, but she is one of my favorites. She is really exquisite.

    • princessricky

this is one of those dresses that probably looks divine in person – the intricate beadwork, the fine fabric, the flow etc – but in pictures..its just okay. esp post-oscar pictures. too bad.

    • Sarah

I think the runway version is lined both more fully and with something lighter which makes the dress look less dingy and more vibrant, plus you can see the pattern the embellishment makes better. I wish Eva had made a similar choice – whatever’s under there as she’s wearing it is not letting it sing.

      • marlie

        Jinx. ;)

    • marlie

Eva wins all of the awards for wearing a red lip.

I love this Saab collection, but I’ve been disappointed about how some of the dresses have been executed on the red carpet. Something about the lining (or the lighting, or both) of the dress on Eva completely obliterates the gorgeous detailing that we see on the runway.

    • Trickytrisha

Liking this dress sooo much more than Angelina’s matronly Oscar version.

    • Mudskipper

Eva, this is not your color. It especially pains my eyes since Eva looks like a dead ringer for my dearest daughter. But my baby knows better to wear strong colors.

    • River

Yeah, I think Angie would have ROCKED this.

    • Gloriana Reginata

Argh, this is a woman who could rock those jewel tones, and instead she’s in such a colourless thing?? I love her – am looking forward to the cracky fantasticness that the film is going to be (plot, who needs it?), and her role looks scenery-chewing magnificent – but this dress? Does nothing to rev up the excitement.

      • mlle

Did you ever see that Merlin/Arthur/Camelot/whatever it was called show she was in a few years back? It was objectively awful and utterly captivating at the same time.

    • Mrs. Julien

Eva Green always rocks a dark lip.

    • Jecca2244

i’m always looking for her lip color and never finding that shade…

    • http://batman-news.com boweryboy

Elie Saab’s dresses all look like embellished belted caftans.

    • Judy_S

I think Eva is gorgeous and nobody’s wax dummy. But I liked Angie’s dress better than this one.

    • B_C_J

I love this dress. She looks amazing in it in large part because her hair is so dark & her lips are so red. Also the fit is 10 times better than Angelina’s.

    • ashtangajunkie

Dramatic looks, red lippy, sequins and sparkles and shimmer – and I find this boring.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Aside from the dramatic back, the lack of color makes this a snooze look for me. Eva could handle a stronger color.

    • http://www.bertkeeter.com Bert Keeter

      OVER all this beaded look!
      Give me a silhouette!

    • Imasewsure

Let’s hope Eva insisted on this one in spite of the fact that Angie just rocked it (or it’s semi-equivalent) for millions on Sunday… otherwise that stylist is toast…

    • demidaemon

Well, this is epically bad style timing. Sucks for Eva.

    • Fraggle

Ohhhh, Eva my Love. Love her. It’s so unfortunate with this dress and the timing. But she’s so much better looking than the Jolie.

And I agree about this colorless colors… go away! Far far away! It’s enough!

      • AnneElliot

It is the color of old bras. It mystifies me why anyone would choose anything in that drab color range, when there are so many colors to choose from — especially pale, dark-haired women who look stunning in jewel tones. I just don’t get it.

    • alyce1213

This is so much better than AJ’s Oscar dress. The fit is more flattering, the back is gorgeous, the sleeves are exquisite.
Unfortunately, the color brings it down to drab. This, in a jewel tone, would have been monumentally gorgeous.

      • conniemd

I have no idea why a woman would want to wear a dress the color of dirty undergarments. So tragic.

    • Truthiness2U

That collection had so many amazing colours, I remember gasping with joy at the rick red, blue and green dresses. Pink rocked one of the red ones during her Wizard of Oz thing at the Oscars. And looked amazing in it. So with so many great colours to choose from from that collection, the default for otherwise stunning white women to wear the neutrals? is just such a waste to me. So there’s that for me, right off the bat.

And yes, the timing isn’t great for her to rock a very similar look to Angie’s so close to it. Maybe that should have been a sign for her to pick an actual colour?! I know…crazy talk. I’ll be the one muttering about ‘the waste of the pretteh. The waste of the pretteh,’ in the corner.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

If it were the color of her eyes, it would be an absolute knockout.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

The shorter sleeves on this dress would have been a huge improvement in Angie’s dress. The rest is so similar I think it would look essentially the same.

    • jilly_d

I find her extremely beautiful, in a tragic sort of way.

    • quiltrx

I love Elie Saab. I still have trouble telling who this woman is.

    • FridaStaire

      Viva Eva!

    • Kent Roby

Most women would be thrilled to be even remotely compared to Angie. This dress is pretty boring with it’s lack of color, though.

    • MaggieMae

She’s wasting her stunning, dark good looks on a bleh color.

    • save_the_hobbit

This is like my dream wedding dress (except in champagne or blush). I love THE sleeves!

    • livesarah

The dress is a lot better than Angelina’s, but it looks like Spanish moss- the epiphyte. Not a great colour for anyone.
