Most of the attendees failed to understand that the “Garden of Time” theme had less to do with flowers and more to do with decay, but trust Lana Del Rey to suss out the darkest and most depressing aspects of something and turn it into something uniquely, strangely, unsettlingly beautiful. The look is based on an archival McQueen piece and according to the house, is “hand-embroidered with bronze hammered bullion hawthorn branches, inspired by Alberto Giacometti’s sculptures.” In a way, she’s doing it a disservice with her big smiles, because the editorial nature of the piece practically demands morose, editorial-style posing, but we can’t fault a gal for beaming when she knows she nailed a look. And yes, those are hoof boots on her feet. It only accentuates the surreal darkness of it all. This piece would be more at home in a museum than on a red carpet, which is why it makes such a perfect look for the Met Gala. It might be one of our favorites of the night.
