Kenzo Fall 2011 Ad Campaign

Posted on July 12, 2011

Y’know, it never actually occurred to us to ask this question, but what if Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Alfred Stieglitz were all as gorgeous as models and lived together as a threesome? They’d probably never get any work done what with all the posing and sex, so we guess the art world is the better for it never having happened. Still, if you’d like to imagine the scenario, this gorgeously photographed campaign for Kenzo is a great place to start. The clothes are beautifully reimagined from their runway looks and despite our jokey opening, we think the pictures inspire the imagination and tell a secret story. We could stare at these pics all day.

Despite not looking like models, considering how many sensual, nude shots Stieglitz took of O’Keefe, and how many ladybits she painted as flowers, I think they managed to have plenty of sex.  Can’t really speak about Kahlo and Diego Rivera, although my guess is…banged like rabbits.

Banged like rabbits, and not just with each other.

There was sex aplenty going on with Steiglitz and O’Keefe and Kahlo and Diego Rivera (or at least, Diego was having lots of sex – Frieda, maybe not so much).  And lots of combinations of partners, too.  And while the originals weren’t as beautiful as the models, they were a lot more interesting looking.  Still, this is a great and thought-provoking shoot.  And the clothes are swoon-worthy!

  • Sabrina Sorich

this is funny because georgia o’keefe would never wear anything like this.

But she could paint stuff that feels like this.

idk, why Frida? Frida would not want to hawk high-end wares, she was a communist.

I love this set-up and the high-noon quality of the lighting. Very evocative.

I want that plaid suit.  More to the point, I want somewhere to wear said plaid suit.  (In the colorway of the pictures, not that of the runway.  The photos have MUCH better colors all around.)

Not usually my style, but I love these photos!

    love…want the giant bag

Brilliant campaign, it makes the clothes look so much more appealing than the runway shots do. (Though, as with all high-end stuff, it’s probably more impressive in person than in a runway photo). The same magic that sold over-embroidered faux russian knock-offs to small women of limited presence in the 70′s is at work making those dresses absolutely beautiful. I forsee women wearing what will look like oversized busily-patterned bedspreads this fall.

I don’t like these photos, I think they’re too complicated and do nothing for the clothes.

That being said, those boots in the last editorial photo are yum.

Such an art geek, I LOL’d at the concept….and I love these :)
