Beyonce Goes to Target

Posted on July 01, 2011

It’s been a slow day on the fabulosity news front, but at least we have Beyonce to show us the Way of the Diva:

Beyonce makes an appearance at the Target in East Harlem to help celebrate the one-year anniversary of Target East Harlem.

We were impressed with what Katy Perry wore to Sears, but Beyonce wins the prize for chain store fabulous. To be fair, we don’t actually like the dress all that much; it’s more of a beach coverup. The hair, on the other hand, is divatastic and her small army of children seem suitably impressed with it. Minions, if you must enter a Target this weekend, we implore you to take a page from Beyonce’s book and act like you’re there to greet a crowd of diva-worshipping children who waited all day for you to show up. You’ll probably have to bring your own microphone, though.

Only thing of note is the belt, which I like as it hints that perhaps this is *not* beachwear. Hope they showed the kids a good time.

    Love her hair like that.

  • suzq

    I like the knotted belt.

If I showed up looking like that, however, they’d call Social Services….

      I know, right?

  • Anonymous

I think she didn’t wear enough bracelets since she can still lift her arms.

  • Anonymous

Dislike the dress and seriously, is that what you wear to meet little kids?  How many 5-year olds got a gynocology lesson?  Poor taste in clothing choice.

The hair is to die for.

Is this a dress or a romper with a panel in front to hide the crotch area?

  • Alina Valero

hahah i think it’s a skort romper… only beyonce can bring back the skort…

    • Anonymous

A skort romper is what I’d be forced to wear in Hell. Two bad looks that look bad together.

        Ha!!!

      • Rand Ortega

        LOL!
A Skoromper! In Hell you’d have to repeat that word in every sentence for eternity.

I wish I knew that’s what we were doing this weekend, because I just came back from Target.Damn!
She looks great. A perfect look for celebrating the1yearanniversaryoftheTargetstoreinHarlem. Who knew such an occasion would ever arise? And I also love  the hair and I must say the Calypso collection would look ravishing with just such a hairdo..

Beyonce is a such beautiful woman with kick ass hair and a great bod but that romper (a word that makes me shudder when we’re talking about women older than their late teens) is horrific. I’m thinking it has got to be Dereon,or perhaps, Sears.

  • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

She wins nothing from me.  The dress is ugly, and I suspect those children may be able to see London and France.  If you know what I mean.

  • Anonymous

I just don’t know what to make of what is laughingly being called a dress. The belt is kind of cool, her make-up is flawless and I’d die for that hair. I only hope she didn’t have to bend down for any reason.

  • kim i

    is she morphing into shakira?

  • Judy_J

Hope she was wearing a swim suit under that wrapper.

I wonder if her skort-romper is from Target? Anybody know who this thing is by?

  • Anonymous

The hair is pretty fantastic, I’ll give her that.
Otherwise, I can’t roll my eyes hard enough at this woman.

  • MilaXX

Did she think she was doing a full fledged concert?  I would have preferred her wearing jeans a a glittery top to meet kids, but I guess bey & JLo have to be all diva, all the time.

  • Anonymous

Good thing I’ve already been to Target this week, I couldn’t rock that look.

  • Jill Roberts

Awesome weave.  As much as I dislike her, I love when Bey rocks a ‘fro.  Not sure whose ‘fro it was, but she is lucky to have it.

    • MilaXX

I keep saying I’mma buy me a wig like that but not as blonde for days when I want to make my mother happy.

really?  Beyonce is ‘celebrating’ the one year anniversary of Target?  This is an occasion????

    • http://joansbooks.blogspot.com/ lilithcat

Yes, actually, it is.  The fact that a major chain store established a presence in East Harlem matters, particularly when it’s the only Target in Manhattan!

      • Anonymous

Remember when Bill Clinton opened his post-presidency office in Harlem (not sure if it’s still there)? It was an important gesture meant in part to bring attention (and commerce) to a struggling part of Manhattan. This Target location is HUGE for the people who live up there.

        • Lisa

I’m not a fan of Beyonce, but you and lilithcat make a great point.  Yeah, I’d say that it’s a pretty important event for that neighborhood.

  • Anonymous

It’s cute, and it’s sporty.  However, unless you’re eleven years old, a micro dress/romper/skort is NOT what you wear to meet children in a Target.  It’s too low on the top and too high on the bottom for that venue.  Dislike!

Is the hoochie mama look really a good idea? What a role model for these young girls! And I hate hate HAAAAAAAAAATE that type of manicure! So very ugly!

    • Anonymous

I’m ok with the manicure, at least she’s not sporting long talons or the dreaded squared-off french tips – I hate obviously-fake nails!

  • Anonymous

LOVE the hair. I actually used to wear my hair like that, but it was too much work to keep it up. I started thinking that, someday, when I got to the end of my life, I was going to wish I had back all that time I spent working on my hair and so moved on to a less fabulous hairstyle. But it was a fun style to rock out while it lasted.

I wonder if the kids are thinking, “Where’s the rest of her outfit? My momma wouldn’t let me out the door half naked like that!” But anyway, she’s so pretty and her hair is perfect for a rock diva goddess.

  • Anonymous

Love the hair. The romper would’ve made a better (and more appropriate) dress, had it been a bit longer.

omg is that hair from the Diana Ross Fright Wig Line?

  • Anonymous

She looks like a wind-up doll in that first/second pic – like she’s going to snap to the upright position and then turn to the other side.  The kids don’t look particularly interested.

  • Anonymous

Diana Ross hair never goes out of style! I’ll skip your invitation to go to Target looking like Beyonce, but I’ll still go to Target. Like I need a reason.

  • Anonymous

The dress is too short.  It actually makes her look a little blocky, a slightly longer skirt would have lengthened her and been a better counter balance to the diva hair.

  • Anonymous

This tacky outfit definitely looks like something from Target.  She looks cute in it, though.

  • Anonymous

    Love her hair like that!

  • Lisa

Welp, it’s her usual tacky looking crap.  Not impressed.

  • Anonymous

That’s right, girl. Show as much skin as possible when being surrounded by a herd of children. At least she kept the girls covered up.

    LOVE the divatastic hair.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_DO54ICWQLRD2STHRSELEATLSKY Cindy

Love the hair.. I can’t pull that off.    I wish more people could do that.  It looks great and fun.   As for the clothes, well I work in an inner city school (not in Harlem though) and I see parents/family members wearing less clothes all the time.  Maybe it was really hot?  What I love about the pictures are the looks on the kids faces.. especially the little girl in purple Tshirt with her hands closed.. she can’t believe she is seeing Beyonce.  The little girl in the pink T shirt is so excited.. you can see it in her face.  Of course the pre-teen/teen boy in the back is checking out the backside.. too funny.   I wish I could see more of the kids.

  • Anonymous

I just hope none of those children were short enough so that standing next to her, they could see the good china.

  • Anonymous

The little cutie on Bey’s right is saying “Misses Beyonce? When we said we wanted to play dress up with you, we meant that we could try on some of YOUR clothes and stuff.”

Blinged jeans and a T would have worked much better for this venue!

There’s a video of this out there somewhere- her choreographer was teaching a dance class for the Boys and Girls Club of America, and she showed up to surprise them, danced with them, and made them all introduce themselves to the crowd. Unbelievably cute.

    • Anonymous

Well yay! I was hoping there was something fun for the kids in it, not just a photo op for the adults.

  • Anonymous

    OK. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQhEho43PUU

Those kids are SO surprised. My favorite is the smallest girl, in the purple, who freaks out a LOT and then throws her hands up and is back to business because damnit, she is going to dance with Beyoncé. So freaking cute. Love her, bad dress, fringed leotard, or whatever.

    • Lisa

Awww, okay, I’m not made of stone here – that really was cute.

I was coincidentally at a Target two days ago, and my fiancé noticed the rack of Beyoncé CDs. He looked at them, looked at me, and said in a very puzzled voice, “Why is Beyoncé white?!?”  The album cover has white washed her so much, especially with the blonde hair.

I was at Target today too…..needed toothpaste. Not as exciting as your story…..

Sorry, but if I may, you really ought to include the accent aigu that is officially in her name! It`s only fair, you know?

I don’t know if she looks THAT great. Dress looks like clearance rack, and the hair makes her look like someone impersonating Beyoncé!

Aw, those kids must have been thrilled. She looks completely appropriate to the occasion.

I have this sneaking suspicion it’s not a dress, and is actually the mutant lovechild of a romper and a skort, but then again I didn’t watch the video. The idea’s too funny for me to potentially ruin with the video.

Thanks for the youtube clip.. That was really cute.  The kids looked really excited.   I also like the smallest girl in the purple shirt–she made me smile.   I will also say, Beyonce’s outfit was very close to some of the “adults” that were dancing in the aisles as well.  In the video the camera person pans out to the audience dancing right before Beyonce’s entrance.. some of those ladies were wearing less or about the same as Beyonce.

She looks like Amy Irving, vintage late 80s.

What the hell is going on with that weave?

  • chhiv_t

When exactly did she become a Diva?  I know her to be an airhead, that’s about it — yo.

Like the hairdo, hate the color.  I will never like Beyonce as a blonde.
