Critics Choice Awards 2025: WICKED Star Ariana Grande in Dior Couture

At the Critics Choice Awards, Wicked star Ariana Grande did not come dressed in Elphaba cosplay or Audrey Hepburn drag, which is something of a relief for us because we’re tired of talking about it. Instead, she came dressed as a dead ballerina or maybe a haunted Victorian doll:

Or some sort of wheat witch of some sort, perhaps. It’s all a bit confusing. Our first impulse is to borrow a line from Drag Race: “Girl, look how beige you are!” We don’t hate the design. In fact, we really appreciate that an Oscar frontrunner chose to wear something this weird and unexpected at an awards show. Still, we hate all of the stuff hanging off the skirt and the black pumps strike us as a lazy choice. More to the point, we have to say that her year-long obsession with turning herself a shade of yellow-tan has not been paying off for her. To be blunt: her look has gotten weirder all year. Her makeup and hair color wash her out and her insistence on wearing these pale neutrals all year has left her looking sallow. Girl, this isn’t your look.
