The stars came out to celebrate SCIENCE in HIGH FASHION looks at the Breakthrough Prize ceremony. We put attendee Jessica Chastain’s wheat dress up for a vote, but it’s time to check in on all of the other science-minded celebs and let them know what we think of their outfits. For science!
Anne Hathaway in Ralph Lauren
It’s kind of nice to see her in something low-key and elegant, since her two film publicity tours (Mother Mary & The Devil Wears Prada 2) are going to have her working clown fashion for the foreseeable future.
Ben Affleck
Just stand normally, Ben. You look great in your tux. Don’t ruin it.
Billy Crudup and Naomi Watts (in Prada)
His pants are puddling, his shoes are borderline shitty, and he needs a tie. She looks nice, but we don’t love the ombre effect and the dres looks awfully stiff and boxy.
Chrissy Teigen (in Cong Tri) and John Legend
He’s impeccable, as always. That’s one of the better dresses she’s worn in a while, but that thing looks like it would be so annoying to haul around all night.
Christina Aguilera in Salih Balta
Those babyheads are suffering. Can’t say that hairstyle suits her much.
Gal Gadot in Altuzarra
It has a surprisingly severe and stripped- bare quality that suits her. The wet head look works with it, but we still don’t like it.
Gayle King
Nice to see a bold print on the red carpet, although we’re not crazy about what the aggressive seaming does to it. The color looks amazing on her.
Gigi Hadid in David Koma
The brooch is borderline tacky, but the dress looks lovely on her. The fit is perfect and we like the subtle play between matte and satin.
Jewel in Tom Ford
A name we haven’t heard in ages wearing one of the goofiest dresses we’ve seen in a long time. At least the hair and makeup are pretty.
Katharine McPhee Foster
We figure you can do the highly textural eyelet or the blingy neckline, but you can’t have both at the same time.
Lily Collins in Saint Laurent
A bedsheet in an ugly color.
Lionel Richie
A classic, in every sense.
Michelle Williams in Fforme
We’re assuming the thing on her neck is jewelry and not part of the dress, since she’s sporting a similar piece around her wrist. Both pieces are interesting and eye-catching. The plain black gown was a smart choice to set them off.
Michelle Yeoh in Giorgio Armani
She looks sharp, and she’s gonna make damn sure you can see her watch.
Olivia Wilde in Erdem
Beautifully strange and strangely beautiful — but also a little overdesigned.
Oscar Isaac
Well alright, sir.
Salma Hayek in Gucci
Not super-crazy about the bustline-into-straps situation but the rest of it looks fantastic on her.
Susan Downey and Robert Downey Jr.
She looks fine. We don’t like his shirt at all but we’re happy to see he’s figured out his lifts/hem situation.
Zoe Saldaña in Alaïa
Gorgeous color but the shape turns her into a bowling pin.
