Oh, we do love it when stars make a point of confirming that which we’ve been saying for decades: the red carpet is an important branding, marketing and PR platform and if you think it’s solely about posing for pictures in dresses, you’re missing the point of it. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle don’t frequent red carpets nearly as much as they should, as enterpreneurs, philanthropists and TV producers. Given their weirdly rocky relationship with Netflix (which we discussed in a recent podcast), it says something that they’d show up to an event for Netflix’s Beef and pose very affectionately with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos and his wife Nicole Avant.

This is pure PR and everyone’s working a little too hard to sell it. We want to say we’re happy to see Megs in a color — and we are — but we can’t say that chartreuse is the best choice for her. Still, we’ll take it. We have some quibbles about the design — the overly complicated seaming makes it look lumpy and puckery and that luggage zipper is awful — but at least she’s not receding into the background. Harry’s looking pretty damn sloppy here.
