The cast of Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, a show we have no intention of catching, hit the red carpet in the kind of high style we’ve come to expect from any cast of a Ryan Murphy project. Say what you will about the man’s sensibilities, at least he gets his people to step up.

Granted, this is nothing to write home about. Sorry to be essentialist about it, but tuxedos need ties. There’s a small subset of very louche, sexy men who can get away with an open-shirt tuxedo look, but on every other guy, it just comes off like drunk groomsman. This doesn’t look particularly well-fitted to him.

You had us until we got to the feathers. Enough with the damn feathers, fashion world. The harlequin pattern is cute, though. Could do without the bows.

Love his combination of velvet suit, striped shirt and contrasting collar. It’s very stylish and well-curated. Her hair and makeup are gorgeous, but we hate how shapeless her ensemble is and how chintzy the skirt looks. A skirt that matched the jacket and a pair of black sheer tights could rescue this.

This is gorgeously chic and we love how much she’s indulging in these kinds of looks ever since she hooked up with Murphy. Her previous style was unremarkable, but as is his way, he really got her to bring out her inner diva. This is, of course, very pose-specific, but what is a red carpet for if not posing?

ABOUT THE SERIES:
The first installment in Ryan Murphy’s Love Story anthology, FX’s LOVE STORY: JOHN F. KENNEDY JR. & CAROLYN BESSETTE is a limited series inspired by Elizabeth Beller’s book ONCE UPON A TIME: THE CAPTIVATING LIFE OF CAROLYN BESSETTE-KENNEDY.

It was a love story that captured the attention of the nation: John F. Kennedy Jr. (Paul Anthony Kelly) was the closest thing to American royalty. The country watched him grow from a boy to a beloved bachelor and media sensation. Carolyn Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon) was a star in her own right. Fiercely independent and with a singular style, she rose from being a sales assistant to an executive at Calvin Klein, and became a trusted confidante of its eponymous founder. John and Carolyn’s connection was immediate, electric and undeniable. As their love story unfolded on a national stage, the intense fame and media attention that came along with it threatened to rip them apart. Featuring Grace Gummer (Caroline Kennedy), Naomi Watts (Jackie Kennedy Onassis), Alessandro Nivola (Calvin Klein), Leila George (Kelly Klein), Sydney Lemmon (Lauren Bessette) and Constance Zimmer (Ann Marie Messina), Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette charts the complex and heartbreaking journey of a couple whose private love became a national obsession.

FX’s LOVE STORY: JOHN F. KENNEDY JR. & CAROLYN BESSETTE is created by Connor Hines and executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Connor Hines, Eric Kovtun, Nissa Diederich, Scott Robertson, Monica Levinson, Kim Rosenstock, D.V. DeVincentis and Tanase Popa. Max Winkler executive produced and directed the pilot episode. It is produced by 20th Television.
