And those thoughts amount to “Keep your expectations low for this one, kittens.”
We have to be the honest bitches God made us and say that we groaned out loud at the opening notes of “Vogue.” Forget what a dated and too on-the-nose reference it is, it’s the worst sort of cinematic cliche when you accompany it with images of runways, zipping up a gown, and a pair of high heels in motion. Of course that’s not the whole film and who knows what the final product is going to be, but the whole point of a teaser is to give you a taste of the vibe and we’re kind of hating it. Everyone’s going to act like satires of their original characters, we can just feel it. We’ve been covering the costume design for this one and we can see it getting clownier and clownier in the exact same way the costumes for And Just Like That. There’s this thing in modern pop culture where fashion is being reduced to easily parodied outrageousness, whereas two decades ago, it was seen as something aspirational, chic and pretty. Sure, maybe we’re over-reading this. Of course we’ll be catching it and covering it when it opens, but like we said, we’re keeping our expectations low.
Gird your loins. 20th Century Studios has unveiled its first glimpse of “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”
Almost twenty years after making their iconic turns as Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel—Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return to the fashionable streets of New York City and the sleek offices of Runway Magazine in the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2006 phenomenon that defined a generation.
The film reunites the original main cast with director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna, and introduces an all-new runway of characters including Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak and Conrad Ricamora. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman also reprise their roles as “Lily” and “Irv” from the first film.
“The Devil Wears Prada 2” is produced by Wendy Finerman, and executive produced by Michael Bederman, Karen Rosenfelt and Aline Brosh McKenna. The film debuts exclusively in cinemas May 1, 2026.
