Rachel Zegler came to the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in a Thom Browne ensemble that we fear is trying to do too much.

You’ve got that sparkly plaid with all of its mismatched seams, you’ve got a sheer oxford shirt, and you’ve got a matching tie. That last element is probably our least favorite, if only because shoving a tie into the bust of a dress just looks dumb. The shirt is too flimsy to handle a tie anyway and the sheer effect makes it look like she’s soaking wet. The dress – we think it’s a dress and not separates – would have been fine on its own. Thom Browne has made his career turning stuffy menswear elements into glamorous womenswear ones (and vice versa), but there’s a limit to how far you can take things before they start looking awkward. Hair and makeup look great. The sandals look odd with the outfit. This called for pumps.
