America’s favorite brand ambassador Sydney Sweeney came to the Toronto International Film Festival to premiere her new queer boxing drama Christy and also to not talk about her jeans at all. Oh, and to serve a look, of course:

We were a little surprised to see that this was an Erdem, because we tend to think their designs are less basic and borderline tacky than this. To be fair, this would all look a lot better to our eyes if it were rendered in any textile other than a pale pink satin. Even then, we’d still find the “corset style top with a pinned, draped skirt” to be tired to the point of entering a coma. Christy is one of those awards-hungry turns where an ingenue gains thirty pounds, cuts her hair and takes off her makeup to play a lesbian, so we get why she’d want to hit this red carpet giving the full sexpot, but this feels a little grandiose for the setting.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
Christy Martin (Sydney Sweeney) never imagined life beyond her small-town roots in West Virginia—until she discovered a knack for punching people. Fueled by grit, raw determination, and an unshakable desire to win, she charges into the world of boxing under the guidance of her trainer and manager-turned-husband, Jim (Ben Foster).
But while Christy flaunts a fiery persona in the ring, her toughest battles unfold outside it—confronting family, identity, and a relationship that just might become life-or-death. Based on remarkable true events, Christy Martin’s story is one of resilience, courage, and the fight to reclaim one’s life.
