Goodness, it’s long past time for a Regina Max catchup, wouldn’t you say? She’s been a busy royal of late and every time she stepped out, the style was wildly different. We thank her for her service.

This one’s almost a week old, from her truncated trip to the Czech Republic before she had to rush home because her own government collapsed. On the one hand, it’s refreshing to see a royal wearing a dress with so much personality and visual interest. Not to constantly make the comparison, but Princess Catherine dresses in such a way as to remove a point of view from her public persona. That’s not a read, it’s just how she’s chosen to approach the role. It’s how all the British royal family (except the exiles, of course) approach their public image. So yes, on the one hand, it’s fun to see a queen express a point of view in her fashion. On the other hand, we hate this dress. It’s mumsy and overly precious and the print looks like bedsheets. Those embroidered, floaty cap sleeves are AWFUL.

We confess to laughing a little at the sight of this one. It’s just so goofy and boxy on her. Like the previous dress, we don’t actually like this outfit, but we’re impressed by how idiosyncratic it is. You’ll find a lot of high society women wearing a jacket like that, but few of them would pair it with wide-legged pants and a chunky heel. Granted, that’s because the combination doesn’t really work, but we salute the attempt. That necklace is something else.

This looks like the same top she wore with that great skirt last month. This is a much more interesting use of it. We don’t love an outfit rendered entirely in this color, nor do we like cord sashes worn as belts, but there’s something very chic about the throwback modern (think ’70s science fiction) style on her.
