We have to give Megalopolis star Nathalie Emmanuel credit. Not only did she arrive at the Filming Italy Sardinia Festival with trunks and trunks full of outfits, but unlike quite a few of her fellow attendees, the outfits in question are, for the most part, not insanely bad. Yes, that’s us; the queens of damning with faint praise.
Admittedly, we probably shouldn’t have started off with this one if we’re trying to argue that her wardrobe for the week is mostly good. But we maintain that if you take off that bizarre neck ruffle, which is doing a wonderful job of drawing all your attention directly to it, the dress below has a lot of potential. The skirt construction is genuinely interesting and if the bust and straps didn’t feel like an afterthought in the design process, this might have been a killer look.
Okay, yes. Fine. We admit it. The first two looks are kind of goofy. But like the previous one, this one has enough interesting qualities to make it eye-catching. Also like the previous one, it has one or two good ideas but then whiffs it on the rest of the design. The top is interesting, but it should have stopped at or just below the waist. The way it just hangs off her lower half makes it look like a repurposed afghan. The pants need five inches hacked off the bottom. The jewelry is gorgeous.
We don’t love cord sashes and we absolutely hate those glove sleeves, but the rest of the look is so sleek and well fitted that our quibbles don’t matter. The earrings are beautiful but we would have suggested something with a little more impact and sparkle.
Did she get a hickey or something? Was she bit by a vampire? Because one neck coverup n a week is quirky, but two leads to some questions — especually since it looks so incongruous with the rest of the look. It feels like a last-minute addition. Regardless, the dress is lovely and we’d have rather seen it worn with a pendant.
