Princess Cathy packed up the family in the car and headed off to grandpa’s birthday party in very matchy finery, as is her way.
This is easily one of her best looks of the past few years. It’s a gorgeously unexpected shade in the late Queen Elizabeth mode: bright, bold, and visible from space. The tailoring is exquisite and we love the contrasting collar, cuffs, and single lapel. The beige suede pumps look a little weird with it. The hat’s pretty fabulous, although we hate how the flowers continue under the brim. Charlotte’s matchy dress is cute and simple. We’d almost call it humble except she’s sporting her first diamond brooch. The boys are essentially in school uniforms. She always keeps them presentable and appropriate, of course, but she doesn’t seem interested in dressing them in anything else. Gotta say, at the risk of pissing off the royal stans once again, that balcony shot is a little grim and sad. We get that Charles aways wanted to streamline the monarchy but we can all remember just a few years ago when dozens of family members stood up there to celebrate the Queen, in a show of strength and unity. Families change, of course, but it’s hard not to see the institution at the moment in anything but a state of decline.
