It would take a lot for us to put a halt to our daily blog roster in the middle of the Cannes Film Festival, and we can’t always define exactly what kind of appearance would cause us to scramble and shove A-listers aside to make space in our day, but Princess Cathy at the Buckingham Palace Garden party is a definite.
Very elegant, very aristocratic, very on point in that conservatively retro sort of way that she prefers for her more formal day engagements. That butter yellow is a lovely shade, but we’re not convinced it’s a great one for her. The dress design feels almost like one of those almost featureless frocks the late Queen wore in her later years. The criss-cross detail adds the only interest. The hat is very much not to our tastes, but it’s part of her version of the uniform and by now, it’s what the public has come to expect from her.
