We’ve long maintained that our favorite celebrity story to cover is “ingenue who discovers the spotlight for the first time,” a la Mikey Madison this past awards season. But it occurs to us that we may never have mentioned our second-favorite celebrity story to cover: “the old pro who rustles up one last hit.” Matlock star Kathy Bates? That’s your cue.
She’s made noise about retiring once she’s finished with her surprisingly successful Matlock reboot/rethink, which is the only reason we’re referring to it as her last hit. Anyway, she came to Jimmy Kimmel Live dressed like an old pro – and by that we mean she knows who she is, knows the venue of television talk shows, knows what looks good on her and what she’ll put up with — and then made her style decisions accordingly. She’s comfortable and confident in a look that flatters her and offers exactly the level of sparkle she needs to stand out. She looks great. Love the jewelry.
