Golden Globes 2025: EMILIA PEREZ Star Selena Gomez in Prada

We’re here to make a few points about Emilia Perez star Selena Gomez’s look for the Golden Globes, but since she rarely left fiancé Benny Blanco’s side, we feel like we should at least acknowledge that he fancied himself up for the occasion and we actually kind of like the whole Formal Frodo vibe of his look.

As for Miss Thing (as we used to say in the ’90s), this is more of what we’ve been noting for the past six months or so: her aggressively grownup, prestige-tinted style shift. But here’s where we say the unpopular thing. While this is almost objectively beautiful, we don’t actually love it for her, because of one simple observation. We suggest you take a leap over to the similarly retro-attired Zendaya in order to understand our point. There’s a way to wear a head-to-toe vintage-inspired look and have it feel alive and easy for the wearer and then there’s this, where the wearer gives the impression that she’s modeling a museum piece. She joked on the red carpet that she was serving Jackie Kennedy and our immediate response was “Yeah, that’s kind of the problem with it.” To us, this is a classic Girl, That’s Not Your Dress moment. It’s pretty, she’s pretty, but the vibe is off. Just compare her here to the swag and confidence she had wearing that Ralph Lauren suit last weekend.
