Wicked star Cynthia Erivo continued her victory lap at the Red Sea Film Festival by attending the Women in Cinema gala in yet another look she should have worn last month.

This is drop-dead gorgeous and it seems strange to us that her post-opening red carpet looks have all been better than the majority of her pre-opening looks. We wonder if she felt she had to ramp up the cosplay because she was standing next to Ariana so much. There’s nothing witchy about this look, but it’s in that Wicked green she’s been wearing all year, so once again, we draw a distinction between theme-dressing and tone-dressing. This is the dress for the world’s leading movie musical star; colorful, whimsical, vaguely retro and extremely photogenic. Nothing about it looks like a costume but it feels perfectly on brand. We do have quibbles, however. The sash isn’t needed and it tends to sort of front-load the skirt, which makes her look pregnant in some shots. We don’t like bell sleeves at all, but we suppose they’re thematically appropriate, although they always say “wizard” rather than “witch” to us. We wouldn’t mind them nearly so much if they weren’t lined in the purple. Still, she looks gorgeous and this ranks as one of our favorite Erivo style jawns of the year.
