The big wrapup! If you’ve missed out, you can start with Part One and work your way through the series. By now, there are some clear themes in our picks, not least of which is the near total lack of men. If it weren’t for Colman Domingo, we’d have had an entire year of black and brown suits on the red carpet. Boys, you better step it up in ’25.

Zendaya in Bob Mackie Couture at Cher’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

We didn’t think we were going to put a second Zendaya look on the list and we wanted very much to keep it all completely free of any cosplay elements, but there was just no way we’d ever let a Cher homage in a vintage Bob Mackie gown ever go unremarked-upon, especially if it’s this good.

Sabrina Carpenter in Archival Bob Mackie at the VMAs

This year’s list was all about veils, shimmer, and personal bests. If Sabrina’d opted to put a little net on her face, she could have gone for the trifecta with this one. Instead, she kept the styling extremely low-key (possibly because when Madonna wore the same gown thirty years earlier, she Madonna’d it up), which is why she landed on the list. It’s grownup and sophisticated, but she’s sacrificed none of her own cutesy-poo style.

Selena Gomez in Ralph Lauren Collection at the Emmys

Sorry to be repetitive here, but your girl landed on the list because she surveyed the elevated nature of her own career, with the success of Only Murders in the Building and Emilia Perez, and wisely opted to completely ditch the pop princess/Disney Channel star style she’d been stuck in for a style that said “Prestige actress at the top of her game.” Nothing better summed up that approach, than this chic number.

Lily Collins in Schiaparelli at the EMILY IN PARIS Season 4 Part 2 Rome Premiere

We expect a little pushback on this one, probably because it was a last-minute addition that spawned quite a bit of debate. We don’t like the choice of shoe at all and we think the stacked bangles are wildly overdone. We also think the neckline is a bit too wide. Despite all that, it’s a drop-dead look that practically screams “Parisian fashionista,” She looks amazing, despite our nitpicks.

Good Lady Cate experimented with her style throughout the year, moving away from the chic eleganza that defined her style for years and opting for funkier, queer-tinged. slightly more boho styles. The results weren’t always great, which is why the one look of hers that landed on this list is probably the most conservative style she wore all year, but we simply can’t deny how stunning she looks in it.
