Oh, man. Nothing against these two, what they’re wearing or the film itself (we screened it the other night and will have MUCH to say about it in tomorrow’s podcast), but it’s a very bad sign for us when awards track films start enforcing theme-dressing on their stars. It’s one thing if you’re playing iconic characters like Barbie or The Wicked Witch, but we hate seeing Nicole Kidman dressing up to match the corporate branding behind her. Girl, you’re better than this. Anyway, here’s Nic and co-star Harris Dickinson at the premiere of the extremely buzz-heavy Babygirl.

There’s a mismatch in the level of formality here, but with theme-dressing (there’s an identical mismatch in the film), it’s hard to apply conventional style critiques. It’s all costume now. Anyway, from a design perspective, we think this is fussy and craftsy. More importantly, we don’t think it suits her. He looks hot and we can tell all of his pieces are expensive. His pants need hemming and we’d have liked a more dressy shirt.
