If we had to describe The Piano Lesson star Danielle Deadwyler’s style, we think we’d settle on the term “elegantly unusual.” She had herself a busy couple of nights and she’s turned to her preference for the chic and odd to see her through.

Ma’am, you had us until we got to the hem. This dress is gorgeous and elegant on her and it coordinates beautifully with the Cleopatra hair, but those chains hanging off the end look dumb and there’s not a chance in hell she didn’t step on them or trip over them at least once during the night. It doesn’t provide an interesting enough effect for her to literally risk her neck. The lack of jewelry was the right choice.

That dress made out of alien eggs is odd enough on its own, but we’re struck by the strangeness of her styling choices. Neither the sheer gloves or that loafer style of pump would have been our suggestions, but we can’t help thinking that the oddness of the choices work well with the oddness of the dress. She looks stunning, but she looks weird – and we mean that in a good way. We may not always love the end result, but we really appreciate her sense of the strange.
