Rufus Sewell and Keri Russell kept the looks simple and chic for the second season premiere of The Diplomat.
We can’t honestly say that we have all that firm a handle on Rufus’s style or red carpet history, but it almost feels like he took a page from her book. She’s always had a very get-the-job-done approach to her red carpet style. Knowing that she looks good in most clothes and that it’s difficult to take a bad picture of her, she’s spent years opting for professional, low-key, largely forgettable pieces in which she happened to look pretty great. This gown is honestly one of the fussiest things we’ve seen her wear in years and it’s still little more than a fancy bathrobe. He looks fantastic. It’s not at all easy to work a velvet suit, especially a light-colored one. The jacket is a little snug across the chest, but the overall fit is impressive. We’re thrilled to see a perfectly hemmed pair of pants over a shoe that isn’t giving him doll feet. Our only critique is that he’d have looked better in a tie or with the shirt undone.
ABOUT SEASON 2:
A deadly explosion in the heart of London shatters US Ambassador Kate Wyler’s world (Keri Russell). Struggling to rebuild the lives that broke and the team that split apart, Kate’s worst fears unfold: The attack that brought her to the UK didn’t come from a rival nation, it came from inside the British government. As Kate chases the truth, her only real ally is her almost-ex-husband Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), very much alive, and very much involved. She faces a fraught marriage, a complex dynamic with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and a threatening visit from Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney).
