The Room Next Door stars Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton have distinct styles that don’t necessarily play well together, although each of them have a preference for the edgy and unusual. We’re kind of fascinated by the direction each of them took for the Madrid photo call.
It almost feels like they both tamped down on what makes their styles unique.
Julianne has always had a preference for bold but colorless ensembles. While the black is not unusual for her, the surprising conventionality of the style is a bit of a surprise. We like the top, but those shiny pants aren’t doing much for it and the shoes are kind of ugly. It’s all okay, but a little dull. Granted, it’s very dressy for a photo call. And speaking of very dressy…
It’s not that Pope Tilda has never shown a maximalist side to her preferences, but she’s usually at her best when she’s working modern, edgier, more starkly interesting looks than this. Having said that, it’s a gorgeous suit and we LOVE the shoes with it. Could have done without that shrug piece, though. She’s working the hell out of it, but it still feels like an aberration; more royal style than papal style.
