As she was about to become the most awarded performer in MTV Video Music Award history, Taylor Swift hit the red carpet looking like a hardass.
It’s giving “Cher Horowitz-Targaryen.” Her stagewear style has gotten increasingly aggressive and hard-edged over the last year or so, while her publicly-private (as in, off the clock but still in full view of everyone) ensembles tend to have more of a girlfriend vibe to them. Everyone knows her style choices are extremely meaningful, so it’s interesting to note this separation of her working life and her public-private life. We love this look for her. We’re more inclined to like the runway version, but the black hotpants are more her style. She looks like she’s ready to fire off some arrows at orcs, which was kind of a theme for the night, with this being the most cosplay-oriented VMAs we’ve ever seen.
