We wonder if Julianne Moore, who enjoys herself some edgy, stark, monochromatically neutral fashion, changed things up in her red carpet style knowing she’d be sharing the space with her The Room Next Door co-star Tilda Swinton, who is, as we’ve noted a time or two before, the veritable POPE of edgy, stark style. How else to explain this sudden turn toward color and sparkle and glam, things she tends to strenuously avoid in her public style?

Why Miss Julianne. We almost don’t recognize you. Unfortunately, we aren’t in love with this outfit. Like a lot of people who tend to avoid color, she’s not always great about picking the right combos and shades for herself. This looks harsh and the style is just a little too work-a-day plain, especially the top. A henley collar and elbow-length sleeves is not a fabulous combination. The shoes are fun, but they’d be better off paired with a witchier sort of look (which is, ironically, the kind of look she tends to prefer).

BAM. It’s so nice to see her embrace simple, uncomplicated glam. We could be utter bitches and suggest that the yellow-gold is a little harsh on her, which it is, but we’re in a forgiving mood. We’d have rec’d a blowout with this rather than the severe hair she’s sporting. Love the earrings, but they clash a little with the dress.
